Being an orthodontist, is the HIGHEST yes HIGHEST paid occupation in the United States, there was just a list of the top ten on CBS news and it came in at #1 over brain surgeons. I am studying to become an orthodontist, it is at least 8 years of school you have to get a bachelors degree and then 2 years of dental school and 2 years of specialization, at which point you could also be certified in facial surgery.... Good luck to you... hope this helps.

Becoming a dental assistant isn't difficult to do, I actually started before I graduated high school. After that, if you're looking to make good money, definitely become a dentist, you can pick your field of speciality while you're in school. But if you want to make good money and be able to set your hours, I'd recommend becoming a dental hygienist. The schooling is much shorter, there's a lot less stress involved, and you can work anywhere for any ammount of money. Hygienists have the luxury of deciding to work for one office or working for a temp agency and making serious money either way.

Yeah...becoming a dental specialist isnt easy. 4 years of college, 4 years of dental school, 2-6 years of specialty training depending on which one you choose. So, you are looking at 10-14 years of education after highschool to become a specialist.
