Good posture, regular exercise, and a healthy diet. You need to take care of your back. I injured mine when I was 16 and have had almost 20 years of pain. I have recently become a gym rat and have almost completely rehabed my back.

Good luck

Well you will be glad to know that slouching is not the worst position for your back according to a study that came out in the last month. Not counting sleeping (lying down), reclining like in a lazy boy is best, slouching next best, and the military straight back worst.
Because I deal with muscles (and the fact that your back has so many in it) I would recommend your invest $20.00 in a book called The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches about muscles, pain and referred pain (you have a lot of years to deal with these). Not only that but also how to get rid of pain - 75% success rate (and that is good for people like me who have problems that even meds cant help).

good question- As a high school and current college student, I have had frequent back pain and I know the concern you have is important. It could be the result of many reasons but some ways in which to reduce the daily strain on your back could include: keeping your backpack lightweight, exercising daily for 20 min., switching the brand of sneaker/shoe to provide more arch & sole support, and doing slow rolls on the grounds in which you hug your legs to your knees and rock slowly.

If the back pain lasts for more than one month after making some of the above changes, you may want to consider visiting a doctor to see if you have experienced serious vertebral damage (i.e. herniated disc, pinched nerve) Some of these conditions may or may not require surgery, but don't be too worried since this isn't very common for young people. Good luck and I hope this was helpful...feel better! :)
