a bit more "bearable" and "in between" hell and heaven. If it's "between" isn't that called Earth? =(
I know that it says that we must suffer from our sins (for cleansing our soul) before ascending to heaven (cuz heaven is said to be "pure"), but how much will we have to suffer?

And, last question, how do we know if we are going to be sent down straight to hell or the purgatory? Bcuz hell has no chances of getting into heaven, at least purgatory does...

the religion you are looking for is catholicism.

Purgatory is described as being painful like hell, but much more bearable because you know that it will end. Suffering depends on the actions taken by man, which is why the bible instructs you to pray for the dead.

No one really knows to be honest were they will go after they die.

Why would anyone go to purgatory? To be cleansed, for nothing unclean shall enter [heaven]" (Revelation 21,27). Anyone who has not been completely freed of sin and its effects is, to some extent, "unclean." Through repentance he may have gained the grace needed to be worthy of heaven, which is to say, he has been forgiven and his soul is spiritually alive. BUT THAT'S NOT SUFFICIENT FOR GAINING ENTRANCE TO HEAVEN. HE NEEDS TO BE CLEANSED COMPLETELY.
Catholic theology takes seriously the notion that "nothing unclean shall enter heaven." From this it is inferred that a less than cleansed soul, even if "covered," remains a dirty soul and isn't fit for heaven. It needs to be cleansed or "purged" of its remaining imperfections. The cleansing occurs in purgatory. Indeed the necessity of the purging is taught in other passages of Scripture, such as 2 Thessalonians 2,13, which declares that God chose us "to be saved through sanctification by the Spirit." Sanctification is thus not an option, something that may or may not happen before one gets into heaven. It is an absolute requirement, as Hebrews 12,14 states that we must strive "for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord."
(Other Biblical references on purgatory: 2 Maccabees 12, 43-46; Matthew 5, 25f; 12,32; Luke 12, 58f; 1 Corinthians 3,15; 1 Peter 3,18-20; 1 John 5,16; Revelation 1,5; 5,9)
Have a blessed and peaceful day

Purgatory is an invention of the Catholic Church.
* The doctrine of Purgatory, established by Gregory I 593
* Purgatory proclaimed a dogma by Council of Florence 1439

There is nothing Biblical about Purgatory. The thief on the cross had been a criminal all of his life and he repented just before he died on the cross. Jesus told him he would be with him in Paradise the same day. He did not have to make a pit stop in a "mythical" Purgatory.
Luke 23:43 Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, TODAY you will be with me in paradise."

The Catholic Church teaches this but it's far from a sect, it's the opposite, for all, and that's what catholic means.

Heaven is the country of pure love, because God is love, everything in us that's not love, sin, has to die, either in this life or in "purgatory".

Hell is the absence of love, absence of God.

Real love on this earth always hurts and contains sacrifice, this could be likened to purgatory.

Catholics are taught that only Saints go straight to heaven. Most people go to purgatory to pay for all of the sins that they committed in their live they have not been forgiven for through Holy communion. It's like jail. If you have a mortal sin on your soul when you die, you go to hell.

You seem to imply that someone got it wrong. Maybe so.

Isn't the same human trait that caused the confusion that you mention an ongoing problem? Don't many mixups start when people accept predigested opinions instead of reading the bible for themselves?

The Roman Catholic CULT!

Not a sect of Christianity at all....they teach
""Another Gospel!"

Purgatory was invented in 1438 by the Vatican.

BELIEVE IN THE GOD/JESUS and One is ASSURED of HEAVEN! (Unlike the Cult Promotes!)

Catholicism. Purgatory is a Catholic thing only. No other religion I know of has it. Purgatory is a place (fictional) where Catholics go to stay and wait on their family to pay money to get them out of. If your family gives the church enough money-you can get out of hell.
It is criminal to treat people this way-but Catholics like it. Go figure.

Catholics belive in this but now the Pope is suppose to abolish that practice. I am a Christian who thinks the Catholic "tradition" is in terrible error. We could of avoided embarrising theological blunders if we just sticked to the word.

Click here for a New York times article on the soon to be abolition of the subject

More like a detention or correctional facility. And dont make god so vicious. Everyone eventually goes back to the light. God is too loving to let any of his creations suffer.
