Would you give the guy another chance or would you think it's a complete turn off? To me it would be a complete turn off, it proves he is a cheap j.e.r.k. Yes i know it's the 21st century, but that doesn't mean guys shouldn't be gentlemen anymore. If he wants me to pay for my own part, he sends me the message he thinks i'm not worth spending money on and he's not appreciating my company, so there wouldn't be a second date. Only answers from girls please.

I feel you COMPLETELY. I feel the same way you do about that. Especially on a FIRST date... He's supposed to be trying to win ur heart and by him being a cheap bastard is not the way. U go dutch after about 6 months of dating and that's only every now and then.

I don't mind paying my own on the first date but I would be paying closer attention to his behaviour. If he was a great guy in every other way then I would still give him another date. He can be a gentleman without paying my way. I have been with too many controlling jerks to see paying my way as the only gentlemanly thing to do.
If he was cheap it would become clear soon enough after the first date and then I would stop seeing him. (I hate cheap guys)

I would find that a big turn off. If he asked you out on a date he should pay. After a relationship is established then i think its ok for the girl to go dutch or even take turns paying for everything. But not on a first date, He would get no second chance with me..

I would probably give him another chance. I think a lot of men now are afraid of offending women by being too "old-fashioned". I would prefer that a man be "gentlemanly" and offer to pay, but like you said, it is the 21st century.

If he explains that he cant afford it for some reason and he is genuine about it its fine. However, there are plenty of things you can do on a date that dont cost either of you money. You can go ahead and ask why just be sure you dont have a problem with paying your own way, but that youre just curious as to why.

Absolutely, no problem. We're all trying to make it and especially in your teens and 20's I don't think any one person should have to pay for a date. How would you feel if you always had to pay? I went dutch with my ex and sometimes even picked up the tab. I also never expected my now husband to pay for me when we dated (although he often did). I am an independent woman and I never want to feel like I "owe" anyone anything. Now that we're married he and I even split the bills.

Well, it depends on the date. If he asked me to go out to dinner and a movie or something with him, I would expect him to pay. If we did something fun or were with a larger group of people I wouldn't be offended at all to pay for myself. Also, it would depend on WHEN he asked me to pay for myself. Sitting at the table after I've eaten my meal and then hearing him tell the waiter "2 checks please" i would be PISSED. Overall, I was raised that whoever does the asking does the paying. Don't ask someone out (not just romantically, even friends, parents, etc) if you can't afford to pay for them. In my family, if someone suggests we all go out to eat, we discuss if we will be paying for ourselves or all on one check before we leave the house.

If the man asked me out .. I would expect him to pay ... If I ask a man out I would expect me to pay ... if he wanted to go dutch on the first date I would have second thoughts about him too ... but wouldn't rule him out right away ... !

It could be he really likes you but just can't afford everything alone, give him a chance. Unless you're a gold digger.

I think you should offer to pay for the whole thing in appreciation of his company.
Wanna be gold-digger.
