Marriage is like a rubber band and no matter what you do to the band the connection cannot be broken. But sometimes people just want to step back and relax or just have fun like the old days (party!) so they try to stretch themselves too far and when this happen, the rubber band breaks and so the relationship.

I like your metaphor-pretty appropriate.

To me, marriage means making the ultimate commitment to the man I want to spend the rest of my life with. It means being as close as we can be. It means sharing everything.

For me, first and foremost - it is a sacrament. This means that God has a major place in my marriage. It is forever. I've been divorced - he was abusive and he divorced me. I went through a time when I thought that the concept of marriage would never work for me. But then I met my current husband of 15 1/2 years. We have made the choice and the decision to love each other no matter how we feel. Love is one of those things that is so often said and talked about - yet many of us have lost the real meaning of it. Marriage is not about feeling good - it is about choices and decisions. Many, many times - those choices FeeL Great - but sometimes they don't and that is ok.

Marriage is a wonderful, mysterious, awesome union with my best friend.

Marriage to me means the joining of two people for life. Through the good, bad, ugly, and even more ugly!! I am a newlywed myself and plan to be married to the same man for the rest of our lives. I do think marriage should be an equal partnership and not one person should feel like they are "carrying the bigger load in the partnership". I don't think "party" days should be over once you get married..they should just be shared with your spouse!

First I believe this is a Miss America type question. However it's a bond shared between two people who want to be with each other and only each other forever. Marriage to them is a tight bond that shows they are one person, unified against everything/everyone else. Oh yeah and I want world peace.

That's a good analogy! However a relationship can be like that without being 'married'. I think these days marriage is purely a legal status to ensure that by law you are recognised as the spouse and therefore entitled to the rights of a next of kin etc.

Marriage is knowing that no matter WHAT, we are here for each other. He is my soft place to fall. We are each other's best friend - so if we get mad at each other, we HAVE to talk it out. Marriage is sacred to us - a sacred bond that gets deeper every year - almost 18 for us. Marriage is fun and laughter, silliness and joy, lots of love and lust.

marriage to me means equality, bond, lifetime love, support and friendship. marriage is creating a family with someone, first just you and that person, than kids hopefully if that's what you want. marriage is about connecting with your soulmate that you have found throughout your life and then sharing your life completely with them through good times and bad.

Marriage is a promise...and its one that I will keep until my dying day. I may disappoint him, frustrate him, or upset him...but I will always love him and I will never betray him.
