The most of the Nissan´s cars have a jewel in the engine
Here in my country there is´nt doubt for the durability of the engines
If you´re going to buy an Altima 2002 , dont worry about the engine, in that case firstable check the suspension, it´s the only thing i´ve noticed for some failure
In the other way, the Altima is a good car, made proudly in the USA
Best Regards

I have owned four Nissan cars, a Suzuki car, and a Ford van since I started driving. My two current vehicles are Nissans and one is a 2006 Altima, the other a 2004 Sentra. My previous Nissans were a 1985 Sentra (lasted 13 years and 215,000 miles) and a 2002 Sentra (traded this in toward the Altima...my kids needed more leg room in the back seat). I find that the Nissan line is very reliable and repairs are relatively cheap (especially compared to the Suzuki which had little after market parts so everything required a trip to the dealer).
Depending on the price, the car could be a good purchase. I'd look at the Kelly Blue Book site to see if the car is in range for the mileage and condition (dents, paint, interior, etc...).

A 2002 is out of warranty or pretty close ( 5 yrs) however I drive a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder with 275,000Kms on it and can't grumble . Apart from a fuel tank and the ususla brakes , belts and regular oil changes it has been faultless. I think the quality of the product has dropped off a bit recently with the ever quest to be competive pricewise but the 2002 could be a winner.
Only you know the price you are willing to pay so only you know if it's a bargain. Good Luck

A 2002 vehicle with 100,000 miles? This means they put about 20,000 miles per year, which is kind of more than average.
Altimas are good in general, and even more from recent years, but with so many miles you would be looking into doing lots of maintenance work very soon.
Money you can save now on the price will be gone later on maintenance (don’t forget the warranty should be expired or about to expire, so is all on your own now).

i have a nissan pickup truck bought it used with 135,000. miles it is a 95 model.i have had it two years. run greats ,miles does not hurt a vehicle if it has been serviced properly and well taken care of. ask the dealer to give you name of the previous owner.call them ask questions. here in Ky. it is a Law that a dealership has to give you the name of the previous owner if asked.. nissans are good vehicles..
