okay so I set them up in the frist place. But I liked him when they were together, we even cuddled and dont say that i was a bad friend. he is a family friend but were really close and there are times when our parents are out and we will wach a movie and end up cuddling. I really like him and I think that he likes me too. If he were to ask me out like as a like a girl friend then i would want to say yes but i don't want to make my friend mad. what should I do?

If your friend can't understand that, then she isn't your friend.

You need to sit down and discuss how you feel with your friend BEFORE you even toy with the idea that maybe he might like you too. If you do like him, you need to make sure your friend would be 100% ok with it if you two ended up together. I would leave out the parts where you two "innocently" cuddled while she was with him, because you know that if it were the other way around you would be pissed. She may say she does mind, and that DOES NOT make her a bad friend, it makes her a person with feelings. Just let her know where you're coming from; you two have known each other a really long time, youre just realizing these feelings for him, you love her as a friend and want to make sure it would not hurt her in any way, etc. I don't think that if she says no you should leave him alone, you should let her know that you are very interested in him and if she doesnt approve you dont intend to change your feelings, just that you wont make it appoint to rub your relationship with him in her face.

That is the first mistake that girls make. Fooling around with the ex. It's never a good idea. Your friendship is more important than anything else. Boys come and go. Friends are for life. If you knew you liked him why would you hook your friend up with him instead of yourself? Sounds to me like you weren't being true to yourself so what kind of friend are you?

If you're willing to sacrifice a friendship with your friend, then go for it but I wouldn't do it. The reason why is because for the most part it puts tension in your relationship as friends. Also there is jealousy going on. She eventually may forgive you but it's gonna take a while.

It sounds like you've already made your mind up. I would say that you should think about factors. Is your friend seeing someone new? Who was the dumper? How long ago did this happen? If you have any desire to maintain your friendship you will talk with your friend about this before you take action.

im practically in the same place.
i set my friend and her now ex up in the 1st place.
but i liked him.
they broke up.
but she still has feelings for him.
though she needs to get over him.
ask your friend how theyd feel if you went out their ex.
if they say theyre kinda upset, say too bad. lol, jk. say how much you enjoy spending time with this guy and maybe your friend will come around.
if your friend says she's fine with it, then go for the relationship!

If it's a bestfriend, it would have been different. Honestly, go for it. If you don't mind risking a friendship with her, then go for it. Your mom is right.
