i couldnt agree more. this may not be about god but about george bush. Stephen colbert is my hero. one of the things he asks is "george bush, great president? or greatest?" He was obviously being sarcasic. I asked that question and everybody critisized me for being a right winged nut. It seems the left or athesists dont get sarcasm as much as there counterparts on the right.

There is so much good in the worst of us
And so much bad in the best of us
That it ill behooves any of us
To talk about the rest of us.

My grandmother had that on a plate on her wall in the kitchen, and I think that your 'question' should 'come to the point' of what it said. I agree with you that it's really frustrating when you say something 'sarcastically' and someone 'reads it' as being a 'straight, but stupid' answer ... but please think about this: many of the people who ask their questions here are lonely teenagers or pre-teenagers who really 'don't know' and are actually 'very brave' to ask a question. I answer 'a lot' of questions here, many of them getting basically the same answer, so it may 'get really old really fast' to me at 56, but to that young person his/her question may be 'really different' and 'really important' and they want a 'real answer' ... and that is what I try to give them. Okay, I am occasionally 'sarcastic' too, but only when I sense that the person who is 'asking' that question is actually older and should be (but isn't) much wiser and is trying to 'fool us' into 'giving the wrong answer' ... and so far no one has ever voted one of my 'sarcastic answers' as the BEST answer, while many others do vote me a 'Best Answer' ...
WHAT ABOUT YOU? I'm 'guessing' that you are neither an atheist nor an agnostic, and that you are 'most probably' the member of a Unitarian congregation. You may 'expect' everyone to understand the difference between when you are being 'sarcastic' and when you are being 'straight' ... but I 'believe' that most of the questions posted here are 'real' to the person who is writing them. I also don't believe that simply because this person 'Hot Carl Sagan' didn't 'detect' your sarcasm he is 'less intelligent' than you are ... perhaps he is simply a person with a 'bigger heart' who can't understand why you are being so 'petty.'

I missed what you're referring to. I will however point out that some questions are posed with such dry wit and learning that it is difficult to seperate the true believers' questions from the parodies.
Hot Carl Sagan, in retrospect, should have been a dead giveaway.

Yes. Religions that teach that killing is OK under some circumstances are causing lots of pain and suffering for all the people of the world.
war = no peace
war = hate
war = poverty
war = starving people
war = racism
war = relocation
war = destruction
It will be better for everyone once the wars stop.

atheists are only human, nothing more. do not put them on a pedestal, if they wanted that they'd be at the pulpit.
Remember the old saying you can't judge a book by it's cover.
Labels lock some people in and shut some people out, plus some people are just jerks no matter what they want to be called:)))

You will note that I did indeed find your name sarcastic. However, you last posting about Whites being lucky they were given the Bible over browns and yellows who werent was...well, it sounded like a typical Christian thing to say. It was a terrible attempt at sarcasm buddy... thats not our fault.
