Besides the pills and alcohol, lol, do not take naps during the day. Take a shower if you can before you go to bed. Not right before say an hour before. You feel good when you put clean clothes on, yes. Well your body will sleep better with a clean body and clean clothes and bed to sleep in.
This is considering you do not have a mental or physical problem.

No caffeine or tobacco 4 hours before bedtime.I try to avoid watching the news before going to bed. Also no naps when you get home from work.Stay out of bed until it's time to sleep. No watching TV in bed.If you can't get to sleep in the first hour after retiring get up and read a book until you feel tired again.Otherwise you'll just toss and turn and think about why I can't get to sleep.

Get plenty of exercise, don't have naps, keep reading and TV watching to a minimum, make sure your content (not hungry or thirsty), sleep in a darken room, make sure your comfortable and noises are kept to a minimum (none is best). Get seven to eight hours of sleep and go to bed and get up the same time, every day.

turn off any electronics in the room (television. computer radio) stuff like that. Drink a cup of sleepy time tea. That will relax you. Also consider reading a book that makes me sleepy.

If you're having trouble try any OTC sleep aid. Preferrably with diphenhydramine. That works for me!
