Everday I come in and see my grandfather slumped over on the couch, lying in bed with this sullen expression. He is unable to read and his life is so dismal, not that my own is any better. Still its like the groundhog day everyday. He smokes, drinks and has a young girl who is into harlotry. He believes that by the way he FEELS, he will walk right thru the gates of heaven and live with the LORD. But everything he does opposes what is written? He doesnt like church, dont like crowds, very stubborn and doenst much enjoy learning anything new. Do I sit back and let him with away? Or do I move out and let him confront the reality of his life? He loves me being here, but he makes me sad to see him in this state of mind.

We each create our own version of heaven and hell. You really can not judge him based upon your own version. The question you must askyourself is - Are his actions affecting your life in a negative way? If so, then you should move out and begin providing for yourself as a responsible adult should do.
If not, then why don't you take it upon yourself to bring a bit of pleasure into his life by offering to spend some quaility time with him? Take him on a nice drive in the country, start a conversation, play cards or a game, watch a movie or a tv show together, or just cook a nice dinner, sit down at the table and talk about your day. Ask his advice on things, whether you need that advice or not.
Maybe your Grandfather just needs to feel needed again.

Well, you are not going to change him if you stay. All you will do is turn him against you. You can pray that God will get his attention somehow. Then be prepared to help him with spiritual matters if he ask you.

The only thing you can really do is pray for him, and let him see Jesus in your life...try to talk to him..Will he let you read to him or maybe buy him some great christian cds or the bible on cassette and let him listen to it...

I will be praying for you both!! God be with you!!
