Sonds like you've been blessed with a gift from the gods! My wife's cat is an arrogant bastard who meows at obscene hours. He also prances around the house showing off his butt hole!

I have four cats and they are all TALKERS! I mean, when I'm talking on the phone, they are meowing at my feet thinking they're in on the conversation. They don't shut-up.
Frequently, as kittens, every single one of them would "lose their voice." I always said that their Squeakers weren't working. Perhaps this young kitten has yet to grow into his roar, so to speak.
But to agree with some of the others on here, I wouldn't worry too much about him if he is adequetely agile and playful. Sick cats and kittens are easy to spot. They are extremely lethargic and weak, even will crawl into a small space as to be left alone. Unless your kitten is exhibiting any sick factors, I would give it a little bit more time.
I'm also sure that cats can be born WITHOUT Squeakers, just as some humans are born mute.
Good luck with your hairball.

My dad told me that when our old cat, now deceased after 19 years of living, was young his kitten would purr and everything, much like yours, but not meow. When the vet gave the cat its shots, it started meowing right away and seemed like it would never stop. Take him to the vet and have him checked out, I doubt it is serious.

Our kitten did that .. we use to think she was so cute opening her mouth and nothing would come out! My husband would do it back to her .. it was adorable. Now we can't shut her up HA! Do not worry, she will develope the meow by 4-6 months... you'll be wishing she was the silent kitten again! LOL

If he is active, eating well, sleeping well, he's probably fine! Kittens have a very tiny voice. Some breeds don't meow much, or very well - some Siamese, for instance, have a scratchy voice. I had a cat for 13 years(part Persian)and he had the worlds wimpiest meow. When you take your kitty to the vet for shots, ask his opinion.

You could always ask a vet just to be safe, but my kitty barely meowed either when she was 8 weeks old. NOW she is 5 and a half months, and boy does she ever meow. We just had her fixed and when she came home, OMG.....she was happy and boy did she express herself.

I wouldn't worry. If he is acting otherwise normal and is eating and drinking, urinating and defacating, there is no problem. If he starts losing weight or acts lethargic, then see a vet. Maybe he's a mute! I've never heard of it but it's not cause of immediate concern, keep an eye on him and ask the vet when you go, as he's a kitten I assume you go fairly frequently anyway.

I have a cat who still only sqeaks. And he's like 5 years old at this point. I would trust your intuition though, if you feel like something is amiss, then get it checked out.

We have an adult cat that hardly meows at all, and when he does, it's weak. That just might be the way your kitten is.
