Christ did not come and "negate" the old laws, he fulfilled them.

Further, the proscription from eating "offensive" foods was lifted by Peter.

ACTS 10:9-16, "The next day, as they were on their journey and coming near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour. And he became hungry and desired something to eat; but while they were preparing it, he fell into a trance and saw the heaven opened, and something descending, like a great sheet, let down by four corners upon the earth. In it were all kinds of animals and reptiles and birds of the air. And there came a voice to him, "Rise, Peter; kill and eat." But Peter said, "No, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean." And the voice came to him again a second time, "What God has cleansed, you must not call common." This happened three times, and the thing was taken up at once to heaven. "

this is what i can glean from all the evasive answers what have come in for this type of question before. even though jesus the son of god, said he was here to uphold mosaic law, he later changed his mind and god told peter that the laws he gave moses didn't really matter. also the roman culture regarded circumcision as an abomination and self mutilation and had outlawed it for everyone except jews. pork was the staple meat of the romans, there was even a free dole of pork in rome and other major roman cities. if you wanted the romans and greeks to become christian you'd have to change the law, christianity was making no real headway with the jews so the law was dropped so christianity became acceptable to gentiles.

that is because most pick and choose what they feel is acceptable from the Old Testament . if they had to accept all the rules it would mean no more pork shellfish catfish any fish with out both scales and fins they have to have both to be clean. if they have one and not the other we are not supposed to eat them. same thing with the beast of the field. they have to both chew the cud and have a cloven hoof, if they have one but not the other you shouldn't eat them. and as far as birds go we are not to eat birds of prey or song birds. so chicken ,turkey and duck are ok, along with a few others but most are a no-no. like i said most of us love certain foods to much to give them up for God. i am one of the few who obey all Of the laws set forth on the Bible as a whole.

Because Christians beleive that Jesus was "the truth" and all that came before was not "the correct info"

what you refer to comes from the Old testament and refers to dietary laws..Like "not mixing meat and dairy" it made sense back then for hygienic reasons..

It does not say in the new testamen that you can specifically ..He never said You could not..and so they go by what he said. Followers of Jesus follow what he said you can and can't do and he never mentioned you can't..so,,to them it is ok.

Moslty it is Jewish people who go by the old testament..and they d not go by what J said.

look, god changed his mind. Even though he is infallible. Stop asking questions. Look, a bunny rabbit!

Personally, I think the old laws became untenable. I mean, I can imagine stoning people went out of fashion at some point. So they bolt on the new testament. I wish they would do something like that again and get rid of the other ugly parts.

1 Corinthians 10:25
Eat anything sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience,

-we are not under the law anymore but under grace- we should not be legalistic. We are just not "UNDER" the law anymore- because of Jesus Christ- New Covenant. The laws are still important however....Jesus did fulfill the laws through His death and resurrection- just as Deidre above said. Good answer Deidre!

Christians don't say that Christ negated any old laws. They say he fulfilled them.

Laws requiring sacrifice were fulfilled by the sacrifice of Christ.
Ceremonial laws were repealed because Christ fulfilled the ceremony.

None of the laws were done away with, just fulfilled.
