Windows 2000 is the best OS that Microsoft ever made.
Windows ME is the worst piece of crap ever created until Vista came along.
ME is based on the 95/98 kernel.
Windows NT was the predecessor to 2000.
2000 is a stripped down and very powerful OS with no eye candy, if you have an opportunity to get a copy of 2000 you should get it.
The only way I will ever buy another Microsoft OS is if they come out with another one like 2000.

Windows ME is descended from Windows 95 and 98, and IMHO isn't very good. Windows NT was a superior platform, Win 2000 and XP are built on the NT framework.
