That's the way I understand it

No. Since the first days of Islam, as we know it, the Jews and Christians were greatly respected as well. They are called "people of the book". A term referring to the earlier textual revelations of the Torah, then the Gospels.

A muslim may not eat at say, a Buddhist or a Hindus house, but they may eat with Christians or Jews. If a Christian or Jew slaughters an animal, that animal is halal (allowable) to be eaten by muslims.

Islam is devoutly monotheistic, and quite openly anti-polytheistic. That's one of the many things I admire about the religion.

That is what most Muslims believe.....and YES sword of Islam is a realty...you look around and see how invading Muslim forces in India have destroyed Hindu temples and went for mass killings.....you do not have to look far back in the history ....the partition of India and the resultant killing of Hindus in Pakistan should have lowered the faces of any self respecting people in shame but not so with muslims....and recently burning 2 coaches of a train with passengers inside, in godhara can only be done by muslims....it shows how intolerant they are towards other religions or groups.....and who will dispute that terrorism is the contribution of muslims....

SWORD OF ISLAM INDEED........

Absolutely NOT.
The verses deliberately misquoted often enough are those revealed during wars and reading the verses that follow makes that very clear, something very few people endeavor to do.
The Quran does NOT dismiss all non-Muslims to hell, that is the greatest lie about this religion.
62nd verse of the second Surah

"Lo! Those who believe (in that which is revealed unto thee, Muhammad), and those who are Jews, and Christians, and Sabaeans - whoever believeth in Allah and the Last Day and doeth right - surely their reward is with their Lord, and there shall no fear come upon them neither shall they grieve."

THAT effectively answers the misconception that all non-Muslims are condemned to hell OR that they are supposed to be killed.

Terrorists are doing a wonderful job of maligning this religion's name and beliefs and since 9 out of ten people do not have the time to conduct research, their beliefs are founded upon the brief glimpse of CNN, the odd article in Newsweek and tavern talk.
God bless.

I personally love the part where it says if your wife becomes an unbeliever you should report her to the authorities and so on and she should be stoned to death.
