I have had my tongue ring for a few years now. But lately I guess it is because of stress but I must squeeze the ring or something while I sleep because I wake up and underneath my tongue is sore and a little swollen. I just wanted to know if I could take it out at night and put it back in ... in the morning without it closing up. Thanks for the help and advice in advance.

I don't suggest you take it out and leave it out at night. Though you've had it for years, it can still shrink up over night making it very hard to reinsert jewelry.

I suggest you try to find a dental acrylic jewelry. Its a softer material and very compatible with the body so you aren't likely to have an allergic reaction to it. They also make dental acrylic ends which might be a good option for you. Also, make sure the current barbell you have isn't too long for your tongue because that could be adding to the problem

sites like bodyartforms.com, steelnavel.com should have it if not a piercer should be able to advise you where you can get it

You should be able to after a few years as long as you put it back in. I leave my cartilage piercings out for long periods of time and then have to restretch them but they are still there. Or you can look into an acrylic retainer for over night if it's the metal reacting and causing the irritation. But yes, it should be fine because after a few years the muscle (which your tongue is) has formed around it more. If an answer here doesn't help you call a piercing shop and ask them what to do. Good luck!

No the hole will close with in 2 to 3 minutes at best most of the time it closes with in seconds. Your tounge / lips are the fastest healing spot on your body.
Buy a space it should help with the irritation. A spacer is what you put in like a piece of plastic when you need to hide the piercing such as for work.

It's all going to depend on you. I
ve had mine pierced for over 4 years. I had to take it out for surgery and I didn't think about it until the next day and it went in with no problem. But 2 months later, I took it out to sleep cause I get sores sometimes from it rubbing on the roof of my mouth. The next morning, it didn't want to go back it. Test it before you go overnight. Take it out for a couple of hours and see how it goes. If it feels tight and doesn't want to go back in easily, I wouldn't do it.

it won't completely close up but it could shrink and be hard or painful to put back in. i took mine out three years ago and there is still a hole but i can only put a needle thru it.

I have heard that it will heal up really fast. I once heard that it could heal in as little as four hours but I dont know if thats true or not. I do know the tongue is the fastest healing part of your body. I wouldnt do it if I were you.

I've had mine pierced for six years now and i take it out now and again and it always goes back in. every once inawhile i will irritate mine too. it will get red and swollen on me. i asked a piercer about it once and he told me it's because my tounge is pierced to far back and it will get painful because of that. i thought about having it done again. maybe you should too.

if you have had it pierced for over a year you can take it out and it will NEVER CLOSE UP. i have my tongue pierced twice adn i only wear the second one but if i want to i put the first one back in. it never closes up, so as long as it done being healed your straight to take it out.
