I have a 5 month old female kitten who I rescued as a stray about 3 months ago. Lately she walks around the house at like 4am meowing for no reason!! I leave my bedroom door opened and so does everyone else in the house. I can't lock her in my room during the night because I don't think it's fair to her. When I hear her meowing, which is EVERY NIGHT I call her and usually she'll come running like she didn't know where I was. And trust me the house is NOT big at all so I know she doesn't get lost. Does anyone has an answer as to why she does this or any suggestions on how to stop it?
Thanks

She is used to going wherever she wants during the night. Remember...cats are nocturnal. So she's probably more active at night than during the day.
You're doing the right thing. When she goes nuts at night, call her in. She'll eventually get the picture and just start sleeping with you or playing in your room. You won't sleep....it's just like having a baby in the house. Good luck.

my cat does then when she leaves the room and htere is no one else around...its like she is calling for company. when i call her to me she comes running so im not sure if she was looking for me (even tho she was in the same room as me a few minutes before) or if she is looking for playmates. she doesnt do it nearly as much now bc my roomie got a cat. sometimes she will walk out the bedroom already meowing...i think looking for other cat. but i put her in the bedroom with me at night....its not mean as long as there is food and litterbox in there

she might be in heat but to me it sounds more like she cant find you or is looking for you as my cat sebastian also 5months did that for a while after i got him when he did id call him and he would come running after a while he stopped doing that meow for the most part he still does occasionally like when he cant find me or when he is locked in the bathroom as i have to lock him in so i can get sleep and now i have to because we are moving in a month and keeping him in the bathroom for the majority of the day makes it less stressful on him and now that i started locking him in thier he has started eating more again! oh yea we have a small place to

Your cat might be stressed or even scared at that time of night. It doesn't matter what you do at night, during the day you should give her some toys to play with. Make sure she had a fun, busy day so she sleeps at night instead of meowing.

she could be in season. have her spayed if this dont work get her a friend. cats are nocturnal animals, that's when they really come out to play, if she had a buddie she would not be searching for on. but get spayed right away, if she is coming in to heat she may dart out the door when you least expect it and you my never she her again, or she may give a surprise when she comes back home.

Well, my kitten does the same thing. She's not that much older than your cat but usually she wants to go outside, she's feeling playful or she just wants some attention/feeling affectionate. So, I just pat her hand and they love when you rub them behind their ears. Hope this helps.

If she's not spayed, that would be the first thing I would look into. If she is, she may be bored and looking for someone to play with. Does she have some toys?

Your cat may be in heat or else there is a male cat hanging around somewhere close by and she knows it.
