Maybe you are thinking that the septic tanks creates methane gas as the waste is decomposed. It is theoretically possible to take that methan gas and use it to run a gas-fired heater. But in practical terms I don't think it would work out. Probably there is not enough gas produced, and you would have to work out a way to store it. Maybe it wouldn't be pure enough to work properly in the heater and would gum up the heater. That might be dangerous.

Theoretically possible, but I think, impractical.

As the referenced article shows, people have been asking this question for a long time. (1973). I don't know if using only the septic tank contents from a single home would be enough to fuel your heating needs.
People at Mother Earth News and other "hippie" or "back to nature" types have been working on this questions for a while. I would try those types of websites. You might even search out some "survivalist" groups, but I would be very cautious.

I don't think that's the kind of "gas heat" you want :) One things for sure - you wouldn't have to worry about any company coming over!
