i'm having a friends daughter over for tea tommorrow and i need something quick and easy to make. there will be 4 children to look after so the easy the better.
p.s they are not very keen on veg but it would be better if it was healthy as apposed to "fast food"

tacos!! I had them last night. I browned the burger and added the taco seasoning. Then you must have shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes and shredded mexican cheese with yellow hard corn taco shells as apposed to soft shell. I like it crunchy. The kids will love fixing their own own taco just put out the ingredients. You can have spanish rice as a side.

Make a pizza. It does take some preparation for the dough, but you can involve the children when you assemble it.

For the dough:
2 cups all purpose flour
2 cups whole wheat flour
or just 4 cups all purpose or whole wheat

1 tbsp quick rise yeast in 1 1/3 cup warm water.
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp salt
Mix it all together and knead for 10 minutes, let it rise covered for about 2 hours spread it out on a pan with cornmeal and top with what you want.

You could also use a Boboli pizza crust, but it doesn't taste as good.

PB&J sandwiches is an option and it's healthy. Peanut butter is a very healthy option for kids and it might be a good accompaniment for tea. And you can ask whether they all eat Jelly. I never did as a kid so it's easy to cater to everyone's tastes because some can have peanut butter by itself...and it won't bother you to have to cater to their needs as opposed to making a real meal/snack and then a few of them saying they don't like this or that. Now...if they all don't like peanut butter...that's a different issue. LOL.

Hopefully this helped.

Mac & Cheese and hotdogs (Hebrew National is the best!)...always a winner! Slice up some apples to go along with it. The Mac & Cheese can be made up ahead of time (make your own from wheat pasta and real cheese) and the kids will get a kick out of dressing their own dogs.

Kids usually like fruit, and to help you could make a simple dip. One recipe is 4oz softened cream cheese, 1 c. whole-berry cranberry sauce and 1 c. thawed whipped cream. Mix the cheese and sauce together til smooth, then carefully stir in the whipped cream. Easy and sweet. Good luck!

Chocolate Almond Biscotti

INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 1/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp almond extract
2 1/4 cup flour
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup sliced almonds
1 cup chocolate chips
1 tbsp shortening

PREPARATION:
Preheat oven to 350F. In a mixing bowl, beat together butter and sugar until smoothly blended. Add eggs and almond extract, beat again until smooth. In another bowl, sift together flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt.

Blend into butter mixture until smooth. Stir almonds into dough. Divide dough in half and shape into 2 logs, about 11 inches long. Place on greased cookie sheet and bake for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and cool for about 10 minutes. Use a serrated knife to make 1/2 inch slices. Place slices back on sheet, and bake for another 6 minutes. Flip slices over and bake for 6 minutes more. Remove from oven and cool on wire rack.

Make chocolate glaze: Mix chocolate chips and shortening in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat for 1 minutes on high in the microwave. Stir until mixed and smooth. Drizzel glaze over biscotti.

Makes 36 biscotti
