I got a new tattoo on Monday. It is on the inside of my right ankle (sorry, spelling(?) but you know what I mean) about as low as you can go. It is a lilly. Part of it is over my bone and part of it travels onto my foot / heel area.

My question / problem is this... I am in a huge amount of pain. I know what a tattoo should feel like due to the fact that I have others. I can hardly walk and it hurts half way up my leg and on the under side of my heel. Two of the petals are very raised and swollen but not a normal swollen at least not the "normal" that I have experienced before. And in those two areas it has pushed out almost all of the pink that was put in there. The area is also "weeping" a little as wounds will do but again, I have never had this happen before.

I had it done down in L.A. and I live in Washington state. I am consulting an artist when I get off of work 2day but I was wondering if anyone had some insight or suggestions to my situation.

Thanks

You put it on your lower ankle right, so the skin is stretching and relaxing when you walk on a spot that has been aggravated by the needle and ink,are your shoes rubbing on it? This may also be a factor. Also as was stated in another answer there is very little between the skin and bone.Tattoos on your joints at least as far as mine where concerned hurt more and took longer to heal. But I would definitely have it looked at.

Getting inked in a spot like that is more prone to this kind of thing. There's no flesh, it's just bone and skin... so it swells a little more, and it hurts like all get out.

Go and talk to an artist, have it checked out, but I'm pretty sure it's a-okay. You might want to use a cold compress to try to bring down the swelling and help with the pain a little, for today.

I would say that your skin is infected. You definetly need to wait before having any more work done on that area. Have you tried putting vasoline on it daily to keep it from leaking anymore ink out. Also cleaning it daily is very important. I have many tattoos and raised skin with leaking is definetly an infection. I would consult a dermatologist before getting more ink put in that area. Just my suggestion. Good luck and take care.

sounds like a nasty infection. you need to see a doctor, preferably a dermatologist and get some antibiotics. A topical antibiotic might help along with over the counter pain meds for the pain (Tylenol or any anti-inflammatory). Either way, it bears professional medical scrutiny.

Remember, a tatoo is essentially an injury and just like any other is prone to infection.

It could possibly be the area that you go it since that area seems to be very sensitive. You may want to schedule an appointment with your doctor, though.

It doesn't seem like you really knew the artist who did it for you, I hope you checked them out previously.

You might want to see a doctor. That doesn't sound very good. Didn't you think about the possibility of this happening before you got the tatto

Definitely get it treated. It sounds very infected, and the pain up your leg, etc. is bad! Get some antibiotics quick before it turns into something nastier.
