Asking a human being about God has the same logic as someone going to the opposite end of town and asking all about you, in a neighborhood where nobody ever heard of you.
If I give a biased answer, I would say to read Tao Te Cheng. It was written by a human being, but what the author(S) wrote is appropriate for a human being. It doesn't try to solve all the mysteries of the Universe. Frankly, people have been trying to do that for thousands of years and rarely came up with anything useful in the process.
Tao Te Ching is based on principles that are evidently natural laws simply because they have consistantly worked so many times for so many people.
One thing to be aware of, however, is that the book is very difficult to understand without supplemental material to explain what the wording and expressions refer to. You might want to start out with The Chang Tzu or The Complete Idiot's Guide to Taoism.

First off thats not the best way to find a religion to follow. You shouldnt follow a religion just because you think it might be cool or fun. the only way to truely find a religion to follow is look inside of you and see where it leads you. you can do lots of research on different types of religions and it will come to you.
But if you are not religious at all why would you want to follow a religion? I am not trying to be a smart asz here just wandering.
but to answer you question,
I am wiccan/pagan. Wicca believes in multiple gods/goddesses, we live our lives by the wiccan rede. here is part of it and the short part to sum it all up. "An it harm none, do what thy will".
I will not and I am not telling you this is the religion you need or have to follow. wiccans do not try and convert people. Most wiccans come across this path sometime during their life. Most wiccans are not wicca because their parents force them to. Wicca is a religion only you can choose to follow because it is what feels right and what you believe is right, not because someone told you to....

First, whatever reasons others have for following their religion can't simply be adopted by anyone else, including you. If you adopt it simply because it sounds intriguing or logical, you're missing the point.
To me, a religious choice comes after a period of introspection and study and self-discovery. You can't decide what to believe until you know who you are..
For me, I grew up Catholic. I tried other paths, some more fundamentalist, and even Mormonism. I was using religion to try to repair a defect that religion told me I have; that being the fact that I'm transgendered.
In the end, I chose a Pagan path. It makes sense to me, it does not condemn people for the conditions of their birth. It recognizes that we are all here for growth, to find out who we are, and what we're meant to do. It encourages personal responsibility for all of our actions.
So, whatever you choose, remember that you can't simply become what others are. You can't choose to believe what they believe. You might decide to go to a particular church, act like those there, and go through the motions, but until you find your own path, you're simply a copycat. You're singing a song without writing the music.
Look around. Read what others have written, but don't follow until you feel that the path is truly yours. Talk to many people. Listen to many people. Digest what they say. Meditate. In the words of the Oracle at Delphi, "Know thyself". When you figure out who you are, you'll be in a better position to know what you wish to believe.

If you are looking to JOIN the truth you cannot.Because you must become the truth and the truth will set you free.True Christians today must become followers of the word and cannot join.Joining wont get you anywhere. You must live the truth. What that means is you must learn what the truth is and then you must follow it.If you don't have any faith in the truth, you cant learn it.Today the truth is taught by millions of faithful witness's around the world.As a matter of fact according to the yearbook of Jehovah's witnesses as of the end of 2006 there are over 6 million members worldwide who share the truth with all who are willing to open their hearts and minds to learn about this good news of his kingdom which is coming soon!

It depends of what you want to get out of it. If your objective is to get a relationship with the Creator, it is going to take you a lot of work and research.
For starters, there is not microwavable religion packages. Every denomination has its flaws in both believes and actions. Just because you chose to stick with certain group, that doesn't mean that you must support their views on politics, morals or basic dogma. To be eclectic and independent (more mystical) about it is useful but it has the disadvantages that you are not compelled by anything to act in certain way (so you need to come up with everything from scratch) and you have no sure if your ways are the right ones (faith has to do with religion, you know?)
My golden rule about religions is for them to talk about love between men. If a religion supports any kind of hatred, violence or discrimination, it is not the right one for me.
If you want to get entertainment out of it, I will go with paganism too.

Follow religion where Christ is the head of it...
just read an excerpt from: http://www.angdatingdaan.com
Where is Christ? He is in the house of God, in fact, He is heading the house of God. In other words, if you are going to seek for God, you can find Him in the house of God. The question now is: Which is the house of God?I Timothy 3:15 says--
“But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God ...”
Therefore, the house of God is the Church of God, the pillar and ground of the truth. The church is the house of God. So, if you want to be governed by Christ, you are not supposed to go just anywhere because there is a specific place where Christ reigns, and that is in the house of God, or the Church of God. It is there where Christ rules. And this church of God in the Bible is what we are preaching. We are not claiming that we are that church because it was already in existence even before we were born. What we did is, we joined that Church. We made ourselves members of that Church. And we are preaching to all that, whosoever wants to serve Christ should go there because that is where Christ is. He is the high priest there. It is in the house of God, which is the Church of God, where we are supposed to have fellowship.
The question now is: Is it man’s obligation to join, or be a part of the Church being mentioned in the Bible? Let me reiterate that what I am preaching of is the Church in the Bible. People have come up with different names for the Church in the Bible, but whatever name they have conceptualized, there is but one church being spoken by the Bible. The question is: Is it God’s will that we join that Church? Is there a need for a church? Other preachers say, “Just accept Jesus.” How can you accept Jesus Christ if you are rejecting the church?
Remember Christ is the head of the church. How can you accept Jesus Christ if you are setting the church aside? Will that be possible? It is just like asking for a warm ice cream. How can you accept Christ and reject the church when Christ is the head of the church? You are beheading the church that way. You take the head and leave the body. Don’t forget, the body is the church. So, it’s pretty awkward if you will just accept the head, or Christ, and discard the body, which is the church. That is wrong!

Thoroughly research all the religions. Any religion that teaches that killing is OK under some circumstances is probably lying. I would stay away from religions that have numerous Gods. I think those religions are probably false religions. I believe in Jesus and Moses. I think you can find the truth within some of the Scriptures related to both of them.

The scriptures aside, you want to follow one that:
Believes in obeying the law, even the inconvenient ones, such as speed limits when late for work;
Believes in paying taxes, even though there are many ways they could avoid them, as most religions do;
Believes in keeping their word, such as to the IRS that they will not promote politics in the church, and they actually mean it:
Teaches their youth that waiting until marriage is preferable to using protection, and for the most part, the youths actually believe it....As a result, their denomination has the lowest rates of out-of-wedlock births and STDs....Yes, there is the occasional ones who would rather have their fun now than wait, but there are far more who choose to wait;
Treats their youth with respect, not just "do what you're told!";
Teaches their children side by side with the adults, the Bible as a whole, and not just Bible stories....The very young may not understand what they are being taught, but by the time you reach the age of understanding, they have a good basic knowledge of the scriptures;
Has congregations that never get so large that the individual gets lost in the crowd and since everyone is taught the same, it is easy to start a new congregation, with its own set of elders;
Knows everyone in their denomination, whether in the congregation, the city, or the county....When a disaster like Katrina happens, every member of the denomination living in New Orleans was accounted for and evacuated;
Has churches that compliments a neighborhood, and not overwhelm it, with a lot of expensive decorative features;
Has churches that has all their members read the whole Bible, repeatedly, and submit their thoughts on where the denomination is doing that is not in keeping with the Bible;
Has members who wear out a Bible every few years, from use; and
Can tell you what actual day Christ observed the Last Supper on, the only day he said to keep in Memorial, without referring to the man made secular holiday.

I wouldn't just rely on peoples answers to decide which religion to follow. Why do you need a religion to follow?
I am Raelian and you can find out about our religion here http://www.rael.org or http://uk.rael.org
There is a free book you can download called Intelligent design, it's very interesting and makes sense.
Hope you have fun researching.

I'm not sure you can choose your religion as if you're choosing which house you'd like to live in or which car to buy.
However God is out there - why don't you ask him to reveal himself to you... so many people are messed up and misrepresent God but if I were you I'd want to make up my mind from God himself not from other people's experience of him.
Most importantly your relationship with God depends on your relationship to Jesus Christ, not merely the religion of Christianity.
If you're interested in this why don't you do an Alpha course? I think you'd really like it most cities have churches that run them - it's for people who are interested in spirituality and the meaning of life - you meet for a meal, chat, hear a short talk then discuss what you think about the area with a small group of other people on the journey.
Hope this helps,
grace
