I have 4 flower girls (2 younger, 2 older) and my wedding is tropical. I would like 2 of them to toss shells (instead of flowers) and I need a job for the other 2 - any unique suggestions??
Thanks!

first of all shells would be very difficult for everyone else in the wedding party to walk on and once the ceremony is over your guests are going to be walking up the aisle and trying not to ankle over on these shells. you should rethink that idea.
at our end of the world you are not allowed to toss anything, including flower petals, because of the huge cleaning up it requires after the services. the time and expense are issues.
so we have had to do away with that idea.
instead our flower girls, and junior bridesmaids, each carried a small nosegay and when they each arrived at the appropriate aisle, stopped and presented the nosegay to the mother of the groom, the mother of the bride, and the grandmothers of the groom and bride. the girls took it upon themselves to drop a little curtsey as they presented the bouquets - everybody loved it.
it might be something you want to think about.
two of the girls were three and four years old respectively, and the other two were six and seven. they all managed beautifully.
good luck on your wedding day and have a great married life.

I was a flower girl when I was younger, I didn't throw anything, just carried flowers. Their is no requirement that they have to throw anything. Keep in mind everyone is going to be walking on that aisle, and probably don't want to be stepping and crushing shells.
Maybe you should just have them toss tropical flower petals if you really want them to all have a job. It's not creative, but more practical.

The only advice I can recommend is SKIP THE SHELLS. Just think of people stepping on them and grinding the bits and pieces into the carpet of the church!!! Oh, no!!

And the flower girls don't have to "toss" anything...they can just carry flowers. My flower girl was too young to understand the concept, so I just gave her a basket bouquet and she was thrilled. So have the younger ones carry the flowers and the older ones toss the petals or something along those lines perhaps.

The job of the flower girl is to toss flower petals. Maybe you have two too many if you don't have anything for them to too. If you must have the two extra why don't you have them toss (or pass) tropical flowers ( or fake lays) to the guests (just on the aisle) for a nice souviner.

You realize that you will be walking on these shells, right? That will be uncomfortable and could lead to a serious fall or injury. Tossing shells, while unique and cute, just doesn't seem very sensible.

As for other ideas... they could blow bubbles down the aisle or toss streamers or something. But flower girls generally do what their title indicates... throw or carry flowers.

Well when my cousin had her wedding 2 years ago the flower girls were supposed to drop the peddles right before the bride entered (the usual) well anyway they got confused and after the wedding was over and the bride and groom were walking down the isle hand and hand, the flower girls behind started throwing the peddles up in the air as they were leaving it was SO cute! so what you should do is right when your pronounced husband and wife and start walking back to the end of the church have the girls follow you and have them throw flowers up in the air. It's really cute. Well anyway hope I' helped. Hope it goes well!

Don't worry about tripping; you'll have your dad aiding you down the aisle, right? Something my mom did for her own wedding was instead of having a flower girl, she had her best friend's little sister sing down the aisle with her choir friends. I saw the my mom's wedding video and it was so cute! The little girls were all lined up down the aisle, single file, and when they reached the altar they split apart, one half on the left side and the other half on the right side. They continued singing as my mom walked down the aisle, my grandpa aiding her.

I'm getting married in July and am having 4 flower girls, all under the age of 4. I think for the younger girls it's easier to have them blow bubbles because they can grasp the concept of blowing bubbles as being fun, whereas with the throwing flowers they just get confused.

tossing shells? that doesn't sound like a good idea. what if they got too zealous with the tossing and hit one of your guests? kids aren't very predictable!

our flower girls didn't toss anything, they just carried tiny bouquets and walked down the aisle before the bridesmaids.

giving out leis is a good idea though.

Unless you are getting married on the beach, have them pick up the shells, because someone is going to have to do it. And I don't think you want to be crunching over shells when you walk down and back! If you are getting married on the beach, have the younger two blow bubbles.
