I would like to work for an agency, any tips on what to do?

It depends which language and which field. Medical translation? Bengali to English?

Just practice translating, create a little portfolio of work... you can get a translation diploma or degree from some reputable universities. A masters in translation can be a key.

I was offered a translating job at a small business networking event once. Just because they knew I was well traveled. Networking can help.

Other than the courses, professional avenues, here's also a good place. You can sign up with a pen-pal and correspond in the language you speak and/or want to learn. It's not a substitute for deeper learning, but this is an excellent place to complement your learning.
