without much budget/money, after college...? If I want to get a job back east for example and then think about going to grad school later, how realistic would it be for me to just pack up and leave this state and go to say DC and to be able to find an apartment, job etc. etc. on a very small budget, and completely on my own???
Please if you have experience with that - help!
thanks

The transition will be much easier for you if you do a bit of research before you go. I say this from experience. Find out what the average price of an apartment is, what the job market is like, etc. We up and moved to the beach a couple of years ago. We loved it there but it was hard to find work making a decent salary even with an excellent resume. It will make your life a lot easier if you check things out first, especially with a limited budget. Go for it and enjoy life and a new adventure.

It's not realistic at all. You must have a job in place or you won't last long. I moved cross-country by myself, having only been out there once, and even with a job it was very difficult. Make sure you have some money in the bank - deposits, getting utilities turned on, etc. is very expensive. Plus the East Coast, particularly DC, is expensive without roommates. You should never just up and go without a job.

It would be wise to have a job to go to and be able to afford an apartment. Visit DC, put in applications and check out the prices of apartments. If it's meant to be, things will work out.

If you are young and not tied down with kids, you should do it. Just sock away enuff for a bus ticket or gas money to get home if it doesnt work out. Go for it!

Be a little more practical. Not to stifle your motivation and ambition, because it is great, but please prepare financially and at least get a part time job before you get there. You can still GO soon, but just with a plan and a little more ammunition.
