The MSP to L.A. ticket was brought seperate for the L.A. to Australia ticket. Do I need to get my bags at L.A., or is there a way to get them to go all the way.

I would think as long as you are traveling the complete trip with one airline you should be ok - you should definitely check with the airline though. But if you are changing carriers you will probably have to get your luggage in LA and then recheck in to continue on to Australia.

Have a great trip!

Are you changing airlines at LAX? If so, I think you'll most likely need to re-check your bags.

The only airlines that fly LAX - Australia are United and Qantas. If you're flying United I'm sure they can combine the reservations and check your bag through. However, I'm not so sure, especially with Qantas, if other airlines interline bags with United/Qantas to allow baggage transfers internationally. Ask when you check in at MSP.

If you have a long enough layover at LAX, and depending on the the amount you check, you may consider just re-checking anyway. Going from one airline's system of checking and tracking bags to anothers can prove a hassle in the event your bags don't make it to Australia. At least if you check your bags with the airline at LAX the chances of your bags getting lost in the shuffle going between two different airlines is greatly diminished.

If you are travelling on two different airlines the best thing to do is check directly with the airlines to see if they have an interline baggage agreement. Most likely you will have to collect your bags at LAX and check-in with the other airline.

I suspect you can check the all the way to your final destination, but it's best to check w/the airline first. If you change airlines in L.A., it might be more complicated, which is why I'd check w/the airline(s).

You're making me guess!! Let's see... NW to UA? Well, if you know what airlines, you can check the baggage agreement between those airlines.

I have to ask this when you check in.When I had a one stop flight I didn't have to collect my luggage but you ought to ask them.
