My laptop came with WinXP installed, but after loading oodles of software and removing lots of redundant stuff it doesn't seem to be working properly. How do I get it to restart from scratch? I don't have an installation disc.

If you don't have a disk you'll either have to buy a version of windows xp or take it to a reputable repairer. Unless you can use the system restore feature to revert your system to a time when it worked properly. Use your help section or the microsoft website to find out how to do this. If you haven't had it switched on always make sure you do once you're laptop is fixed. Another good tip is set up a seperate administrator account that you don't use everyday that way you'll have a way back in to solve most problems that will be affecting only your user account that you use everyday.

If you can't go back to your laptop manufacturer for a copy of your installation software, you may be forced to buy an XP "upgrade" copy ($40). However, you'll need your current XP owner registration number to install the upgrade version of XP or a previous Windows 98, mellinium etc installation disc.

Go to the manufacturer's website and see if you can buy the reload software.
This is by far the best way .... otherwise you'll need to work hard to find the correct drivers and install software for the box. You've already paid for the use of the software so why pay again to be able to get it reloaded. ... Good luck.

Did your laptop come with a system recovery disk? Generally you'll get either a recovery disk or a OS media disk but not both. If you don't have either, contact the supplier of your laptop and request assistance (particularly ask for a system recovery disk). Please make sure that you copy any important information off to another system, CD, thumb drive, etc... prior to doing the restore.

You need to contact Windows helpdesk, call the 1800 number at www.microsoft.com or send an email, as long as you provide proof of purchase, you should be able to get a copy of Win XP fro them. otherwise, if you can go to the dealer, they should be able to give you the installation discs.

search the internet for "windows xp download" then download, burn to a CD, then install, but i will warn you it will take awhile to download, depending on your connection speed, the key should be on your on a sticker, on the bottom of your laptop, if not search the net for a serial key finder, install it on your laptop, it will search your computer for the serial key, id that dont work, you will either have to buy a new Cd, ot find a key, that will work

Good Luck

Either your sound card has failed or you do not have the right drivers to support it. Does the hardware manager display any unknown items. If so then it is just a driver issue. If not you may need to replace the sound card. Unfortunately on laptops the sound card is usually embedded on the system board.
