This a bad thing to do? I need to loose 70 lbs in around 4 months. The closer I get to my ideal weight the slower it comes off so I need to drop the first 40 or so as fast as possible. Why would this be a bad thing.

Statistically you are more likely to keep the weight off if its is lost slowly. I have lost 75lbs in 7 months which is obviously more than 2lb a week, but my doctor is fine with that for 2 reasons. The first is that I have a lot to use and the second is that its medically less dangerous for me to lose it quickly than stay heavy for longer.

Do you want to lose weight for a one time thing? If you do fast might not be that bad, other than the unhealthy act of gaining and losing weight repeatedly. But, if you want to lose weight and keep it off you must go slowly or your body will rebel, think it's starving, and keep all the fat it can to help you survive. 3-5 pounds for the first couple of weeks can be expected since a lot of this is water weight from bloating caused by a salty fatty diet. After that 2-4 pounds a week is safe. You may lose more but not cionsistently.

It's a bad thing to do, because when you're losing weight at that rate, there's a very good chance that you're losing a significant amount of lean mass (muscle) along with fat and water. Ideally, you want to just lose fat, and minimize muscle loss. Losing muscle will mean your metabolism will slow down. As a general rule, ones metabolism slows when you diet, so along with having less muscle mass than you did previously, you're actually decreasing your metabolism double fold. With a slower metabolism, when you finally start to eat more 'normally' (or even just more than what you're eating now) you'll be at an increased risk of actually gaining weight. So, long term, it's not good to go for a crash diet plan that loses anything more than up to 2 or 3 pounds a week.

Most of the 5 lbs. you lose is probably fluid and not fat. Just be sure that you are getting the vitamin, minerals, fiber, protein, flds etc. that your body needs to be healthy. Good luck!

by dropping to much to quickly you can get certain things out of balance like blood sugars, electrolytes, vitamins, fluids. Just take it slow it's safer.
