I guess it is something I agreed to download , but now it keeps popping a window up everytime I boot up my computer prompting me to "register it" and that I have "10 days left to register Internet Download Manager". Is it wanting me to buy it? What is it? Do I need it?

It's a program that lets you schedule, pause and resume downloads, I don't know about this pop up window, one thing I know is that it's free, I had this program before but I uninstall it a long time ago, so you may want to do that if you don't want this program or if you don't use it.

Download Manager takes care of this thing. If you are downloading through any download manager, in such case it resumes doanload from where it was disconnected. It splits the file in some 4 parts and joins in one file when all 4 parts are downloaded . DAP (Download Accelerator Plus) is a good example of this.
