I've flown loads of times but in the last two years I've developed a phobia mainly due to the lack of control issues and now I am too scared to go on a plane. I need a holiday in the sun!!
Any ideas?

I only fly when my poor husband is desperate for a sunny holiday and I make sure we go for two weeks because I am so nervous of flying. I'm worse at take off. I too am afraid of heights but I find it doesn't affect me whilst on the plane because I don't look out of the window or listen to the Captain when he tells us what height we're flying at.

The way I get over the feeling on take off is fidget. During flight I imagine the slight turbulence is a bump in the road (I tell myself I'm in a car). Landing isn't too much of a problem, but I fidget again.

The only other way I can think of in getting over the whole fear, is to go to Paul Mckenna. He's the only one I would trust.

Ps. If you have a ladder. Start going up a few rungs each day until you have no problem standing on the top rung. When you are happy with that go a bit higher. This way you will get over that sort of height fear. God even the thought is making my legs go funny.

I have a fear of flying and heights too. Had it all my life (I'm in my 40's). And for me trying to overcome this by whatever means people tell me is more worrisome and stressful than simply knowing I have this fear and finding another means of transportation. Life is hard enough and sometimes trying to solve a phobia can cause more problems and stress. Now if you were a pilot, that would be different. Well, there are other professions in life, but you would need help for that. But a holiday, to relax and enjoy the sun? Take a car, a train, a boat, whatever. The point is to relax, and trying to beat a phobia to get there seems to defeat your purpose. Have a nice holiday!

You have two phobias . The fear of flying is a lack of trust into someone else ability to get you there , you lost control of the situation . You afraid that will crash the plane and you will die . Fear of heights is not trusting yourself in your agility and movement . Afraid of falling form a ladder or crossing a bridge .

Think of the end point - the holiday. That's a good way to overcome your fears.

must know exactly why you're afraid to fly. unless you get down right to the core, you will never truly overcome your fear.

confronting your fear! with help of a psychologist, dont let your fears hold you back from doing what you want to do! fear leads to anger- anger to hate and hate leads you to the darkside of the force!
