My Jack Russell Terrier was sitting on my b/f's lap. He was petting her and when he stopped she jumped up and bit him on the face! I have only had her for a week. I adopted her from the pound. She loves being petted and brushed why would she bite?

It wasn't a bad bite. She didn't even break the skin or leave any sort of mark. I was sitting next to my b/f when it happened so I know he wasn't being mean to her. She is a VERY polite dog. I think she must have had training before I got her.

You need to get this dog in obedience school! It needs to know who the boss is (and that is all of the humans in the house come first, and then her!). You as her owner have to show her that biting is not acceptable, and the next time she does that she should immediately be put on the floor, and told NO BITE!~firmly. She should not be played with or touched for a little time (basically ignored for a little while). She obviously didn't want him to stop petting her, but she thinks that she is control of the petting! Good luck!

Someone below me said to put her in a crate. You must not do this! A crate should not be used for punishment!!!! It is a safe haven and is a comfortable place for your dog when either you are not home, or sleeping (night).

Just two weeks ago adopted a dog from the pound lab/hound mix and luckily I got a good smart gentle dog. However, before adopting we put a hold on him we visited daily to walk , play and show him loving. Sometimes there is a reason why the dog is there other than being a stray, i.e. moving, expense or the dog was just plain mean. Unfortunately, the person surrendering the dog will not put that on his adoption sheet for fear that the dog will be put down. If you can, try to find out who owned the dog before you to see if there was a mean streak in the dog. Also, read about the breed , a dog may be cute, but a Jack Russell has a lot of energy and behavior problems that need to be addressed at a very young age. You may need to talk to a vet regarding behavior modification or ( and I hope not) have to take the dog back. The pound where I got my dog had a lovely border collie, however, whenever a man went near the cage it would go nuts and show its teeth, according to the people at the pound she was abused by a man, and could only be adopted to a female owner. Good luck

How hard was the bite? She was probably just being playful. I have a Chihuahua and he will do that sometimes. If he is not getting attention he will nip at you. He is not being mean though, it is a playful nip and does not hurt. He is gentle.

Maybe he did something to her too and she bit him. He did not tell you everything maybe. I would see what else she does. Remember she is a new home and a new setting. It takes them time to adjust to you and their new home. I adopted my dog too. Thank you for adopting. So many pets need good homes. Hang in there with her.

If you got her from the pound there's no telling how she was treated in the past. They should have evaluated her but call them and ask if she was. She may have a past issue or problem that has not been dealt with. It's also possible she just needs some good training.

Maybe she feels abandoned & insecure & needs a great deal of loving but doesn't know how to express it. She might have been abused or neglected by her family before you. Before adopting a pet from the pound, you should try to find out its previous history if possible.

Take Her To The Pound And Tell Them About This Accident ...
They Should Be Understanding About It

Your b/f could have hurt your dog without noticing, if you just adopted her you should check with your vet and make sure she's healthy. If that's not an option, then I can only think that she either doesn't like him or that she liked the petting so much that she got angry when he stopped. My last option would be that if she's young, she may be teething, and doesn't know what's appropiate to chew on and what's not. Either way, I hope you're b/f is ok, good luck

My Yorkie bites a lot because he wants attention. He will always jump in people's faces to get their attention. When he does this, I hit him on the nose very lightly with my finger and tell him "no bite".

Because she is a JRT! You really need to research this breed...they can be very bratty! You need to get her into training classes and be very strict with her. Also, she needs to have very long walks everyday because JRTs will go crazy and act like complete jerks if they don't get enough exercise...think BIG dog in a little dog's body.
