I received a phone call from a man (sounding strange) asking for me, and then asked me if the number is my home number or work number. Then I said it is my work number and immediately he hanged up. I am worried what he will do next. What do you think and any advice?

You should have a caller id device in the first place dude!!!
The first thing you ask when you answer the phone and you dont recognise the person on the other side is say " WHo's this".
NEVER EVER again give anybody ANY details about you or where you work or live like that. EVER.
I wouldnt worry about anything this time ok. After all, you didnt do anything thats bad. You have no reason to be on the edge about this. It was a prank phone call. Have a caller id device installed right away. If the person calls again, let them know you have the number and theyre location. Make the rest of the family aware of this and tell them to do the same.

If you have caller id, then make note of the number, and check out the source of the number. Most likely though, the number was blocked and therefore, unavailable. Before you answer the phone next time, make sure the number isn't blocked. If the number comes up as "Private" or "Unavailable", don't answer it.

If you don't have caller id and you answer the phone and it's him again, do *not* give him any personal information, or any information at all. What you could do is click the phone's mouthpiece with your fingernail and say "Operator (or officer), this is the call I wanted you to investigate". He'll hang up quickly if he thinks he's being watched he'll hang up quickly and probably won't call back again. (The click makes it sound like you're getting someone else on the line) Hope this helps.

I would definitely get Caller ID. And if an anonymous call comes in, let it go on the answering machine. Same for an out of area call. You should NEVER give out any information if you don't know who the person is.

if you have the telephone # of the incoming weird call, then either call it back OR try www.whocalled.us

yep, that's a .us not a .com

you can enter the # and find out who called. Usually.
Worked for me, I had a weird call like that the other night.

Or it could be a bill collector just verifying your job, it's an old bill collector trick.

There is a * code you can type right after the phone call that will notify your phone company that you want the number recorded in their system. I guess after that you contact them and ask them what to do about it.

sounds like a collection call to me. any outstanding debts? if this is the case, i suggest you request in writing they not contact you at work or at home and they put any communication with you in writing by mail. once you do this and they call you again, they are in violation of the law and you can take legal action.
