hey i'm an asian girl and i dont know much about the customs, especially dating rules here.

a canadian guy asked me to go for coffee this weekend, he said it very casually..and because he is learning chinese and he would like to have my help, then he said: we can have coffee together this friday..blablabla...

the point is..i know he has (or had, im not sure now) a girlfriend..and honestly i have a thing for him..

so i dont know going for coffee is just about two friends hanging out or means more than that?

he asked me out several times before but none of them were actually done..i feel he is weird to me..

perhaps he is just playing around with me or just simple language learning??

plz help me!!! thanks a lot!!!

If it's just getting together for coffee so you can talk, I wouldn't really call that a date. It may very well be that he is trying to get a chance to talk to you and take things further, but meeting for coffee itself is just a half hour of your time.

Hmmm...you feel he is weird to you, but you have a thing for him. Go to coffe if you choose to, and quit stressing out about what this is or isn't. Many times "coffee" is considered as a door opener, as in, he might think you have potential, but then, not really sure how much, so is only committing to coffee which is not nearly as long as a dinner/movie type date. That sounds crappy, but lets face it, we all do it. Good way to look at it is he did not say to go out dancing, most of those guys think about you the same as the coffee guys, they are just thinking about you in terms of a potential score rather than a potential interest. Good Luck!

Going for coffee is the first step to dating and it is also a very social thing to do with a friend. It is all in the intent of the parties involved. The only way to know for sure is to ask him.

Asking someone to join you for coffee is a standard line used to get someone to meet you for a date without calling it that. It's more likely that he'd like to have a drink and start a romantic relationship. I think you should trust your instincts. He has a girlfriend (that he doesn't plan to invite) and you think he's weird. Go with your initial impression and tell him that you're too busy right now. Good Luck

I say go out for coffee, and see how and where it goes from there. While you're there, pay attention to how he acts around you. It may be a date... I say this because he could've picked anywhere to go for a tutoring session (example: Library, school) While you're there, casually ask him does he have a girlfriend. You can say: "How does your girlfriend feel about me helping you?" (in a jokingly manner) You wouldnt wanna "fall" for this guy, and then he winds up having a girlfriend. **Let me know how it turns out!! :-) ***

in asking you to go for coffee instead of an actual date he may just be trying to feel you out and see if he is interested enough to go on a date. generally going for coffee doesnt last that long so if it's uncomfortable or whatever they can leave. he may be interested but just wants to see if he should persue it further.

Friends go out for coffee, but then again, all romance starts at friendship. Say you do hook up with this guy one day. You'll look back and say, "Remember our first date?" to which he might reply "Yea, we went out for coffee."

Best wishes.

It doesn't have to mean a date. It could be a simple get together or an initiall get together to determine whether he would like to pursue a relationship with you.

Its hard to tell what anyones intent truly is. Just let him make the moves thats what guys do anyway, if hes interested he will show it.
