I have this friend, best friend ever, we've kinda had a serious relationship without being bf/gf, and so I'm kinda thinkin' of getting a "promise ring" to also officially "propose" for a bf/gf relationship. I got this solitare aquamarine ring, planning to do it on valentine's (she likes corny things =P) but I need to know if I can actually propose for bf/gf with a promise ring.

A promise ring is usually given to a girl when you want to show her how special she is and how much you love her, but you're not ready to propose marriage (it's like the step before engagement). I think it would be very sweet to give a promise ring to her, if she's as into you as you are to her, however, I wouldn't make it look like a "proposal." Don't get down on your knee or anything. Just present it to her and ask if she would like to be your girlfriend. I hope she likes it and I hope she says yes!

A promise ring is usually something guys buy girls to keep them from having to actually promise them anything. If you are promising to marry them, then you get them an engagement ring. A promise ring is also known as a STFU ring.

I don't know if you need the ring. To me, a promise ring says, "Someday I want to make you my wife." She might get scared off by such a big step. If you want to be bg/gf, then just sit down with her and ask her.

i wouldnt suggest actually proposing with it. just make her a promise that you will one day. and that you have to plans on breaking up. and that you love her.
propose to her later...when youve got the rock!
