I know that a lot of bipolar people are creative and artistic, but do people suffering from bipolar tend to be more intelligent as well, or would that be strictly coincidence?

I've been affected with Bipolar I disorder severely for the past 15 years, and I have always been very artistic and creative long before it's onset (when I was 30 years old). I also have an above-average IQ, and graduated with all A's. The other people I have met who are bipolar also are very intelligent and have creative abilities as well. In fact, I sometimes find myself trying to keep up with them even during a simple conversation. I haven't met hundreds of other bipolars, so I can't speak with authority or fact. But I have yet to know one who has been of low IQ.

I kind of wonder if some bipolar people are creative because of their emotional intensity. After all, emotional ups and downs are often what inspire artists and intellectuals.

with people that are bipolar, the chemicals in their brain are different, so they might be able to absorb more information and grasp it better. But that is a really good question!!
