My puppy is teething, just turned 4 months. HE HAS TERRORIZED THE HOUSE! He jumped up to the counter, grabbed the bread, then was up all night with bowel movements- which kept us up all night. He tore up so much! He is going crazy! He moans in pain, and I rub his jaw. Since he's been teething, we haven't slept! We love him and feel bad. Are there any suggestions? Thanks!

I have a puppy too and I went through the same thing. What I did was keep tons of chew toys, bones, ropes around the house. A trick to play on your dog is to alternate the toys. So for a few days have the rope and the kong ball out and then a few days later switch them with something else. Your dog will think he/she is getting new toys all the time. Make sure to keep a little food in the bowl all day long even though your dog may have eaten (this is in case they get bored and want to eat or chew on something). There are toys at Pets Mart and PetCo and other pet stores that have toys especially for teething. Once I got my dog a bone that you put water in and froze, so it was like a Popsicle. Just remember to be patient, he is a puppy. It will take time... Don't ever get upset with him (they are just like little babies, it is not their fault). In a few months things will calm down. And by showing your dog all this love and affection when he is older he will remember this and love you even more. Good luck.

I have never heard of a puppy being in so much pain from teething. Try to give him tough chew toys that you put in the freezer to cool them. Also, kennel him at night or when he is misbehaving. Don't let him run wild around the house. Also make sure he is eating only hard puppy food. Hard food helps with dogs teeth in general. If if keeps up call your vet.

Ok, first, buy a crate. Keep him in it when you can't watch him closely. Second, puppy proof the house....just like child proofing...pick up anything you don't want chewed, loose wires, etc. Third, get him some chew toys....they make some that are soft for puppies. When you catch him chewing something he's not supposed to, re-direct him to the toy. Crate him at night, and ignore his whining while in the crate. I have heard also of some people wetting a rag and freezing it...gives the pup something to chew while the cold helps with the pain.

When my rot was teething I went to a pet store and they had teething keys for dogs. I bought the biggest one that they had and he loved them. He knew that he was only to chew on them and his toys. When I got my toy poodle I did the same. Another thing is when you are not home and also at night keep him in a kennel with his chew toy or teething keys. Also try giving him ice cubes. the coldness of the cube will numb his gums and also he can chew on it. Always keep him in the kennel while not at home and at night. It will help with the getting into stuff that he should not be getting into. Any vet would tell you that. Hope this answeres you question on teething for you puppy.

Another good thing to do, besides the Kong toys, is to take an old washcloth or handtowel , dampen it, and freeze it. Chewing on the frozen cloth with help with the pain.

I have two Golden Retreiever INDOORS so I know what you are going through...The best thing I got for them is a "kong" it is a toy that's rubber and they can't chew through it. You can get them at PetsMart.
Another thing you might want to take up anything they might chew up before leaving them alone or going to sleep.....shoes etc. especially their bowls and stuff....not god for them to chew on those...GOOD LUCK
