My parents brung him from philadelphia because he was sick with the cold and wanted him to stay with us to get better about a month ago. He appeared fine after a few days, then my sister found him dead under a table in the back of our house and his nose and left eye was bleeding. We were trying to look for him for over a week, we thought maybe he ran away. plus i got a new cat is it possible that the new cat poked his eyes out? but when we saw him before he died he didn't want to interact with the other pets eat or drink. my parents are blaming my new cat and want me to get rid of him help!

Your parents are just upset that their cat died. The fact that the cat wasn't eating is a sure sign that it was VERY sick. Poor guy should have been brought to a vet, not just shipped off to a warmer climate. I'm sorry to say it, but your parents are the ones responsible for the cat's death. When an animal is sick you don't make a major change in its environment - that is not going to help things.... You take the damn thing to the vet.

If you want to know how the cat died.... again.... TAKE IT TO THE VET.

Bleeding from various orifices (openings like mouth, nose, ear, eyes) is a classic symptom of death from rat poison. Are you sure it isn't that? Without an autopsy and full history of the cat, you cannot be sure from what your cat died from. AND it is EXTREMELY doubtful that the new cat had anything to do with this poor kitty's death. What you all thought was a "cold" could have been a symptom of something worse... it would have been beter to have taken the kitty to the vet. And just so you know now, when a cat is sick, try very hard not to stress the cat any further by transporting the cat to someplace else (unless it is absolutely necessary); forcing the cat to adjust to a new environment with new people and new pets. Stress deflates a cat's natural immune system and susceptibel cats can get sick or if sick already, will get worse.

But I am soooooo sorry to hear that your cat died.

It is unliekly that the new cat had anything to do with the death of the other cat. It is impossible to tell you how the cat did die, but several things you said indicate problems for him. The fact that the cold was bothering him is a big tip off. Cats should be able to live fine in winter as long as they have the protection of a house. You also say he had to come to stay with you "to get better" although you don't indicate what from. That he didn't want to interact with the new cat is normal, but that he did not want to eat or drink is a sure sign that something is wrong with him.

I hate to say it, but what killed the cat is most likely that he did not receive any medical care when he fell ill. You parents should have taken him to the vet when he became sick. Depending on the cat's age and symptoms, a simple prescription might have saved his life.

The new cat though had NOTHING to do with it, and certainly did not poke his eyes out. More likely that it a symptom of the disease that killed him.

The injuries you describe do not seem consistent with an animal attack. By your parents' admission, the cat was already ill. He was weak, and them bringing him to your place would have been an added stress on him, as cats bond with their territories as much as they bond with their people. The new cat would have added to the stress, and there may have been some hostility between them, but cats don't kill each other, they fight to assert dominance and then try to avoid each other.
If your cat was already sick and stressed, he could have had a seizure and then fallen and concussed himself. There are many other possible causes of death; the only way to know for sure is to have a necropsy done. If your cat has been treated regularly by a vet, that doctor may also have more insight into the cause of death than we do on Yahoo since we are not aware of the cat's medical history.
Sorry for your loss and sorry about your callous parents. Maybe you can dump them in an old age home for a while to teach them how abandonment feels.

Good answer above. Firstly, if the cat had a "cold" it could have died from complications of the cold. It could have had a fever(this is common with a cold) and convulsed as the answer above stated. Secondly, if the cat had an upper respiratory infection (cold) you need to keep a watchful eye on your new cat for runny nose and eyes (it is highly contagious!). As you can see, not properly caring for an animal can lead to death. An upper respiratory infection may require antibiotics for a possible secondary infection and fluids for dehydration. Also, a cat is reluctant to eat when it is congested because they rely on their sense of smell.
Your parents are playing the blame game for their lack of responsibility. I don't understand how bringing their cat to a new environment to recover could have possibly helped when it is such a stressful situation for an animal. I have several cats and each introduction to my home has never resulted in any more then a hiss or seclusion. Don't get rid of your new cat!

It sounds to me like your cat was very sick. Cats occasionally injure each other but those injuries are rarely serious and hardly ever fatal. They also don't do it quietly, they normally spend a lot of time swearing at each other first. If they had been fighting I'm sure you would have heard it. It's more likely your cat was in an accident or maybe the bleeding was a result of whatever illness he had.

First of all your parents needed to take responsibility for their pet, and they should not blame your cat for killing their cat. I'm sure there must have been something medically wrong for the cat to have died. Too bad this happened, but there is no way I would get rid of my new cat because of this.

I am sorry that the poor cat died-it sounds like he was very ill and should have gone to the vets.

I am puzzled as to why your parents think the other cat is responsible-it makes no sense.

Be sure to show your parents these answers and perhaps they will realise that they should have taken a little more responsibility themselves and not blame another poor cat!

Good luck to you all.

Well lt depends on how old your cat was before he died. l have a cat and he`s 15 yrs old now and lt`s a wonder our cat isn`t dead yet. but our cat is getting very old. maybe your new cat had not a thing to do with the way your other cat died. lf your cat was really sick then maybe he died from that..

I doubt the new cat killed him. He could have had a serious illness. Cats are prone to leukemia. Did you look to see if he got in some time of cleaning products or poison? If you want to know for sure you could call a vet to see what they suggest.
