I know who Doris Day was, and yes I think she was an atheist. She was a champion of lonely housewifes.

As far as Mother Theresa, I don't know if she is an atheist or not. I think she may be agnostic. You just can't work that hard and see positive change through YOUR hard work without just wondering why you believe in a god you can't see.

No and Hernan Cortes, Francisco Pizzarro or Thomas de Torquemada weren't atheists either. Jeffrey Dahmer-I might as well throw him in as an afterthought- product of a good Christian upbringing.

Dorothy Day? Dorothy Day?

Oh, yeah. Wasn't she the one who clicked her heels three times and sang "Que Sera, Sera"?

If your point is that there are no atheist humanitarians, you just haven't looked for them. They're in abundance. Try Bill Gates, Ted Turner, and Warren Buffet for starters.

If you know these people, why would you ask such a question? It is very inappropriate. I personally think it is in poor taste.
