restart your machine and when u see the Windows (assuming u hv this) logo when starting up, hit your F8 key once and wait. When options are presented, select safe mode and when you get the task bar, start menu etc (though they would appear big), go and select run your antivirus software.

Assuming that you have a virus program already installed on your PC....

Turn the PC on and immediately begin to repeatedly press the F8 key.
Continue until you get a screen that offers the "Safe Mode" option
(If you get the Windows logo, it did not work, and you need to reboot and try again. There is a 2 second spot were you have to hit the F8 key to get to the Safe Mode option)

Select the "Safe Mode" option. You will see some writing and other stuff you do not see during a regular boot. (It is info us "geeks" can use to look for boot up errors).
Once you get into Windows, your screen may look "larger" then normal. That is OK. Safe Mode uses a generic video drivers, so it may look fun.

Once in Safe Mode, just run your virus scanners the same as you normally would.
You may also want to scan your PC for spyware and defrag it while in Safe Mode.

When done, reboot the PC to return regular mode.
