If you knew w/mathamatical precision and scientific certainty that their would be a great calamitous event on Mother Earth Dec.21,2012,would you live life to the fullest,or expend your resources to try to survive and propagate the species?

Heck, why not do both; whistle while you work. It's also a good time to find a single for dating. You may have a lot of work to get done if a calamity, such as the one you foresee happens: Propagating the species is no small job.

I would not wait to have great certainty of a calamity to act, since certainty is almost never available. Reasonable certainty is good enough for me.

I would probably construct a strong shelter, such as a concrete geodesic dome in a stable area of the country. I would then stock it with supplies that I might need to survive. I would try to make it as self sustaining as possible. Then I would invite a "queen bee" over for dinner and hope she decides to stay a spell. I would then live life to the fullest.

I'll try to take a look at the resource you list.
