My doors and baseboards and trim are wood. Can I paint hem white? Do I just prime and Paint? Or just revarnish them?

After applying thousands of gallons of paint, even in some very high end homes, I have to wonder if a "Natural Wood Look" is unsuitable to you?

To more directly answer your "Q", Certainly you can!

Without knowing the finish on the natural wood, one might assume that some modest sanding is needed, but perhaps not at all necessary. I see hundreds of answers here that immediately go to "SAND IT"

Is the TRIM clean? It should be in any case. If you can determine whether or not the stain/ paint/clear coat, over the trim was/is oil base or water base, you should do that first, and CLEAN it no matter.

KILZ is a decent primer product, and usually effective over CLEAN oil or poly finishes, even in IT'S water based form. They offer OIL base as well, but for an interior OIL base is pretty archaic.

I suspect, at the very least, you must have a "color scheme" in mind, and if it happens to WORK with natural wood grain finished molding, and the molding is in decent condition, keep it.

The RICHNESS of the combination is trendy, and classy, often.

Beyond that if you wish to just re-do natural, stained, wood grain trims, go with Poly, not Varnish.

Just my experienced opinions folks.

I agree with Steven W. It sounds like you aren't happy with the wood finish. If you want to paint them white, then paint them white. All of the trim in my house is white and I love the white trim. You'll probably want to sand the surface some first to rough up the finish a little better so the paint sticks better.

White trim also seems to go with more. With wood finishes, people have so many different views that the same wood that looks good to one person may look awful for another. For instance, some like dark wood finishes because it makes the room look rich. Others hate dark wood finishes because it makes the room look dark, dreary or old. Some like medium wood finishes, but others say it makes the room look to countryish. The nice thing about white trim is that it can go with about any style.

Best bet is to revarnish them. Lasts longer than paint and looks richer.

Sand them lightly, prime and paint any color you chose. Much easier than stripping and revarnishing or restaining.
