My fiance will not wear gold nor white gold. I am just concerned that if we get sterling silver rings they will show more wear over time, or may tarnish. Are there any other types of wedding bands that are not gold that will last a lifetime and still look like new years from now?

What is palladium? Is this a platinum substitute?

Platinum baby! If you can afford it. Yes, a sterling silver ring will last a long time and if it does start to show wear over the years, you can always surprise her with a new one on one of your anniversaries. I have had my sterling silver ring for 8 years now and still looks great and I never take it off.

Edited: Palladium (IPA: /pəˈleɪdiəm/) is a chemical element with symbol Pd and atomic number 46. A rare silver-white transition metal of the platinum group, palladium resembles platinum chemically and is extracted from some copper and nickel ores. It is primarily used as an industrial catalyst and in jewelry.

Well if she/he won't wear gold then you have no other choice. I don't think silver will last a lifetime but you can care for it so it doesn't tarnish. And, if it does, one great thing about it is it isn't expensive, you can simply replace the rings. But I'm curious about the no gold thing? Why not? And white gold and silver look identical - why the no gold?

they will tarnish, but you can make the tarnish go away. i saw this on queer eye for the straight guy: use toothpaste!! it really works, i have a sterling silver necklace, and when it gets tarnished, i rub it with toothpaste, and voila!! tarnish is gone!! of course it'll smell like toothpaste for a hour or so, but thats ok!!! and sterling silver lasts for a very long time!! the neckalce i have is about 50 years old, and it's perfectly fine, not worn at all!! if you don't want to do that, than platinum is the only thing i can think of......but it's expensive!

Depends on the person and what they do... if their hands are in water alot or if they like to garden. If she wants to take it off or leave it on all the time. Silver tends to pit and then gets weak and brakes. Platinum with proper care should last a life time.... even more. I also take off my ring when I do housework but I am really rough on rings- all my gold and white gold ones look like they are about to snap in the back and my platinum ring now a year old still looks new.

Platinum or Titanium. I wouldnt go for the silver. I have the Tiffany & Co silver band that I wear occasionally, Its only months old and yet it looks like crap already because it needs to be polished. You will constantly be polishing your ring and if this is for your husband he wont do it. It will be hard enough to get him to pick up his socks off the floor and all that entails is bending over, polishing a ring will be very low on his list. BTW, whats his aversion to white gold? The yellow I can understand, but white seems strange to me if he is willing to wear silver.

Palladium is EXPENSIVE, but then, so is platinum. Sterling is porous. That's the reason when ears are pierced you put gold in the piercing so it doesn't absorb bacteria and spread infection.

What's the scoop with gold?
How about a titanium or tungsten band? Both are affordable.

it will not last.. with wear an tear... it will turn black, also sterling silver ruins when it gets wet. Your better off taking him to a jewerly store, and comparing the two. there is not a large visual difference from White gold and Sterling Silver

I didn't like gold either. I got a titanium ring. It's a few years old and still looks great. You can get them polished out when they start to dull too. It's comfortable, light and actually very affordable. It looks close to platinum but a little more grey.
