I'm leaving for South Africa for 5 weeks & instead of taking the injections I wanted to take the tablets incase I decide to go into the big parks.

Depends on what part of the world you're in. Have you gotten all your other vaccines? Malaria doesn't have a vaccination, you just take the medication for it. You usually have to start a few days before your trip, then every day of it, then for 4 weeks afterwards to be safe.

Many health insurances cover it, here in the States.
