'Citizen' is correct you can be done for not displaying, this will cause untold hassle, if you are spotted by the police and they check with DVLC it will not be on their books , it takes up to two weeks for the DVLC to update their records. This also applies to being able to get your licience on line if you have just renewed your insurance, your insuranc Co inform DVLC that you are covered, the DVLC dont log that in for a couple of weeks after the event, so people have been unable to get their licience on line.
It will all take even longer now they are getting letter bombs.
A print out conformation from your computer will not do the job, you have to display.

Yes, however it is still an offence to not display a disc in your windscreen, so you could be fined for that (even though you have technically taxed your vehicle).
Tax discs run out at the end of the month, but you can apply for a new one from the 15th of that month, so if you do it then, it should arrive within about a week (by 1st class post), so don't hang about too long.

You are covered by the date on the disc, whether in the post, delivered or not as you've paid..... but the law requires you to display the disc, even though it be a petty minor offence

I would say no. The law states that you must have your tax disc on view on the windscreen of your vehicle.

When you buy on-line you can print off a receipt to put in the window. This wont stop you getting pulled for not displaying your tax but does give a reference number that can be checked so you will not get in trouble.

Do it a week earlier to ensure it gets to you in time before the other one runs out.You may be covered but its illegal not to have it displayed on the vehicle.

You are taxed as soon as the disc is issued. But failure to display your disc is an offence and it will be pursued.

yes , I am sure this would be OK as long as you are not "at it". The police can easily check with the DVLA as to whether the vehicle is taxed or not.
