In essence you are right. People will invariably choose the religion that best suits what they already believe about a higher power.

If they were taught a certain set of beliefs as a child, those teachings will generally follow them through life. If they were not taught, they will seek that which they can believe in.

There are people who change religions because their views don't mesh with the doctrines.

There are people who refute God altogether for the same reasons.

Fact is we cannot prove or disprove the existence of God any more than we can prove or disprove which (if any) is the 'true" religion.

Jesus is the I AM and God also stated in the Old Testament that I AM. The Lord is a Friend, a Father, a Teacher, a Comforter, a Master, a King, a Savior, a Healer, a Deliverer, the Word of God, etc. He is to those who believe that He Is anything that He needs to be for them.

It depends entirely on whether god created people or people created god. I think god is an actual entity created by people (check out http://noosphere.princeton.edu to wonder about this possibility).

If god created people, then probably god is fixed, but we will see it in the way we best interpret it anyway.

If people created god, then it is reasonable to assume that people re-create god too, therefore god will be (at least in part) whatever you want god to be. If this is true, then god will be even more so down to interpretation.

So either way it's still down to how you see god.

Dear Friend,

God is what he is. He is the creator of the Heavens and the Earth and everything in them.

Revelation 1:8
"I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty."

God created us, and therefore he is what he is.

Why not read the book of Mark, it may clarify some of your questions

God Bless

Of course god is what you want him to be. People are the ones who made him up in the first place.

Romans 1:18
But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness. 19 They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. 20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.
21 Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. 22 Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools. 23 And instead of worshiping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people and birds and animals and reptiles.

No. You have to be careful or you will be guilty of idolatry. God cannot be a worldly object. You cannot take a worldly object, whether a thing, love, sex, drugs, money, etc. and make it out to be God.

God is set apart and Holy. You must keep that in your heart and mind always. God is unimaginable to us, as humans. Trying to imagine Him as "something" creates sinful thinking and you will begin to idolize a thing instead of the true God.

Sure. God can be the cheese sandwich in the fridge you forgot to eat. Just pray to it, ask for forgiveness, and you will see the same results as going to church.
