The audio track sounds great in the video editor, but when I convert to mpeg, it acquires noisy pops and scratches like an old unlistenable record. Is this avoidable? This is my first attempt at video editing... please couch explanations in idiot-friendly terms. :-) Thanks.

At first I thought I could answer by suggesting you need to use a good microphone when recording video vs. the in camera one. But that might not be it. Have you checked the audio settings, maybe max them out. There is audio cleaning software available too. Under $100. I am wondering if the noise is there and it gets enhanced in the conversion to mpeg.
