Why is it that people read a book about "God" to answer all their spiritual questions but do not use their own heads to think for themselves? If "God" gave them brains then why don't they use them!...sorry to anyone this offends but I am so sick of people only thinking about the words they read and not anything else.

No, I agree with your statement. I do believe it's ok to get guidance from a book as long as you come to your own conclusions about how to proceed from there. I also think this applies to the hollywood elite endorsing political candidates. Why should I believe the opinions given from someone who makes a living spewing what other people have written for them especially considering that most of those actors have barely finished high school. We should be using our brains in this as well!

God didn't give them brains. The human mind created the concept of god, and human brains use it as a coping mechanism. Unfortunately, between childhood indoctrination and peer reinforcement, religious delusion is rampant and the brain of a person of faith will constantly twist every bit of scripture and every event in life to fit the delusion. It doesn't mean they aren't intelligent, it means that their intelligence has been abused and they continue to make the conscious decision to reject rationality in favor of fantasy. For some people, there is an eventual breaking point, for others there isn't.

The answers cannot be found in ancient texts. Those are too mistranslated, poorly-edited, and obsolete to be of any use. That is why non-believers are drawn to science, which is more intellectually honest and responsible about what it tells us.

Who the hell are you to assume I don't think for myself? I study the manuscripts, and I know what they say, and I know what I say. I do both. i use my brain, and i have knowledge in what is written. You, on the other hand, only have whatever feeble attempts you've made at one of those. Bet you're a real einstein, too.

It's an affliction that is particularly prevalent in the US for some reason. Maybe critical thinking just isn't in the nature of Americans.

Because it would involve using their brains and by virtue of the fact that they believe their little book,I can only deduce they do not like to use their brains too often
