My ex and I were together for one year, we lived together too. Well, during that time we got a puppy. He is NOT a dog person, he always complained about our dog and let me know how much he was not a dog person. Well we've been broken up for 6 months now (I took the dog of course). I get this random phone call from him yesterday asking me if he can take the dog on saturday, just out and about.....uh.....and he offered to come pick him up and drop him off. He also offered to take him to Dirty Dogs (a dog grooming place) and pay for it.....this is odd....could there be an underlying message here?

sounds like he is trying to keep some sort of contact with you in order to be a part of your life still.
he still cares for you and is using the dog as something to keep in touch with you about.
if you care for him too, then tell him you do.
ask him if he wants to go together to the dirty dogs place and see what he says. if he is agreeable, then he wants you back in his life.

It could be that he really does miss the dog much more than you or he ever thought he would. However, given all the extras like the dog grooming that he has offered, it appears he may be trying to get on your good side. It is up to you whether you want to let him back into your life and to what extent.

I think he is trying to get back to you by his offer.
He might just dislike your dog's ungroomed behaviour, that's all.

maybe he is using the dog to get other girls to take an interest him. They say women are attracted to men who have pets/children (i.e nephews/nieces)

it's either he wants to get you happy or jelous, make you think he's something he's not or make you feel bad after the realrionship, to remind you that you share something liek that..or im sorry but he wants to kill your dog
