Not really, it would burn at too fast a rate. You'd be better with incense.
Try putting the vanilla on the back of a radiator or, even better, if you have a wood burning stove, put them on the top of that. The heat will release the smell. You can also do the same with orange, lemon and lime peels, like my local pub does, and it makes a brilliant smell.

ermmmmm...probably not! it's not just the vanilla essence but the entire pod you're burning so you'd get all those smells added in too (I guess!)

No, you need to put it in an oven on the lowest heat and it can be smelled all over the house
