I'm not a big fan of Valentines day and I don't really like to make a big deal of it (btw does anyone else feel this way - its such a cheesy hallmark holiday...) Any way, the problem is, my boyfriend wants to celebrate, and I know he's probably going to do something really nice for me, like a nice dinner and a gift - even though I've told him I don't need all that. I would personally much rather just spend time with him and return the favor in other ways..rather than buying him something. So I guess my question is, how important is it that I go out and buy him a gift?

I agree with you that V day is overrated. However, if he is doing that for you, let him :)
Why not just get him a card and a dvd of his favorite movie? It doesn't have to be extravagant. Just something to show you care.
