I just had one right now (the chocolate) and again, the taste of red pepper came into my mouth.

Do you think they have used a part of red peppers in the chocolate ingredients? Please help! Am i going mad?

I know that the Aztecs were big on chocolate, and they often added hot (chili) peppers to their chocolate drinks. Mostly, it was because back then, they didn't have much in the way of flavorings like we do now (namely, sugar). Also, they had an abundance of peppers...why not use them?

Scientifically, I know that there are essential oils in hot peppers, as well as capsicum (the chemical that makes them hot), that react with the chemicals in chocolate. This releases OTHER chemicals (called phenols), which releases flavors and aromas. In other words, adding peppers to chocolate intensifies, and compliments, the flavor.

Basically, the same thing happens nowadays. Cooks and chefs often add hot peppers to chocolate. It's always "pure" peppers, fresh or dried; you wouldn't add Hot Sauce to chocolate, because the Hot Sauce contains other ingredients (like vinegar) which would ruin the flavor of chocolate. The pepper doesn't add a great deal of flavor or heat, all by itself; it just stays in the background and "backs up" the chocolate.

The same principle applies elsewhere, too. Sometimes a small amount of ground black pepper is added to fresh strawberries, or to ground coffee (before brewing), to release essential oils and enhance flavors.

Many chocolatiers follow the Aztec tradition of adding Cayenne to their confections as the pepper is a perfect enhancement of fine chocolates.

it's possible that they did use it on each other because there is a thing called genetic modifications. Many do not realize that there are genetically modified foods in our local supermarkets, the FDA has not made it a law to label it's products so people just buy and eat food that has been modified in the DNA without realizing it. Ex: Corn has a mixture of DNA from a bacteria to prevent other bugs from eating and destroying it.
