Why do people smoke even knowing it will harm them? People don't always make the most logical, best thought out decisions even though they should. People like to do things that are easy. Staying on the same course we are on and not making any changes is simply easier than to change and do things that make life harder.

Decades and generations of bad habits.
Convenience has spoiled us.
It's difficult to persuade people to change their habits to good ones or helpful ones....
Just look at the food industry alone...fast food, fatty foods, poor nutrition at low prices and this has resulted in what a 60% obesity rate in North America?
How many decades have gone by to convince people about eating healthy home-made meals(?) or even exercise.

Trying to persuade the general population to stop pollution on every level is a monumental task.
Many industries would lose money if people would 'smarten up' and shop sensibly. For example Swiffer... the one use throw it in the garbage when you're done company. All anyone has to do is use a dust cloth or a towel that's slightly damp and wash it with the regular laundry... how easy and what a money saver and less or no garbage.
People don't realize the money they would be saving if they would refrain from their fast food addiction and all that waste wouldn't go to the land fill.
There is so many more things anyone of us can do daily to prevent pollution... in our homes, at work, out in public. Supporting garbage generating companies would have to stop or demand that they change their products to earth friendly items.

That's what I think.

Two reasons:
1) Many people are too stupid to realize what they're doing or they don't think it's that big of a problem. People have the mentality that throwing one cup out the window won't hurt and things like that. But it all adds up.
2) People are selfish. It's more important that today is good, regardless of what tomorrow will hold. It's okay if we screw up the planet now, because we'll all be long gone before it ever becomes a huge problem.

Ignorance mostly...however, we all need to get to work and school. And as long as the oil industry rules everything we do, it will stay that way. Why do you think that electric cars, hybrids, and solar energy are not being employed more...or better yet, made law that everyone must use them...it's because there is no long term money in pure electric cars...the oil tycoons would go broke.

We need to get politicians in office that care about our environment...in 50-100 years, we may not even be able to breathe our own air.

We are actually making our world go into another ice age...the Earth will try to "heal" itself...if it has to get rid of us to do it...it will.

Look at how many extinctions went on in our long past...the Earth is 4.96 billion years old...It will do what it has to, to survive...just like we must.

Because we are caught up in a socioeconomic paradigm that cannot work without some level of pollution. The real challenge is changing that paradigm. It's happened before, and it will happen again.

I'm beginning to believe that it's part of the evolutionary process. Survival of the smartest.

People who take issues such as global warming and pollution seriously, who are looking ahead to the consequences, may find ways to survive them. Those who don't, or won't--well, it would be nice to think they will change their minds in time.

Man is the dangerous animal in the universe...updation, and changes are the two permanent things in this world.
he knows everything, but never consider anything when it comes to his sophistication. even the environmental welfare board member has all the sophisticated modern equipments in his/her home..wat to do...we can't stop this we can only reduce the harm..
